The new SEC will put power back in the hands of Victorians by investing in renewable energy generation and storage, supporting households to go all-electric, and building the renewable energy workforce to drive Victoria’s energy transition.
About the role
The General Counsel and Company Secretary plays a key role in ensuring that the SEC Board, CEO and business units are provided with expert practical and strategic legal advice to support all of the SEC’s commercial, investment, energy markets and corporate activities. You will assist the business to manage legal and regulatory risk and oversee the governance of the SEC Board.
The position reports to the CEO and is supported by a Deputy General Counsel who manages an expert legal team.
About you
You offer exceptional strategic, legal, commercial and negotiation skills to a newly created organisation where good governance, risk management, adaptability and business nous are crucial.
You bring to this demanding executive role substantial experience as a General Counsel (or equivalent) gained within a complex public or private organisation and proven company secretarial expertise. You are accustomed to working with a Board in a timely and effective manner and managing a range of legal and governance issues within a complex, novel, highly regulated environment.
You work effectively with Executive and Board stakeholders, government and regulatory bodies and external advisors. You are accustomed to contributing to commercial and strategic legal issues including complex commercial transactions, licensing and regulatory risk.
Energy experience is desirable. Most important is the ability to meet Board and business expectations with maturity, commonsense and calm.
