Crisis and Adaptation.
2 July 2020
The 2020 financial year began as a good year for the legal profession. Hiring was up and business activity was supported by a regulatory environment which had created opportunities for both lawyers and nonfee
earners within law firms.
The pandemic which then occurred has so far resulted not just in a public health crisis, but in arguably the largest and the most sudden economic crisis in Australia’s history. The impact for law firms, as for many other businesses, has been far reaching and at the time of writing, yet to be felt in full. There have been changes to balance sheets, the nature of lawyers’ work and the way lawyers work. The pandemic has set in motion a new era.
